Earlier this year, the Satellite City BMX Club engaged Spanlift Australia to build the roof over the BMX track. You may recall, through my President Reports and other communications on Facebook and the internet site, that the progress hit a hurdle when the steel producer went into voluntary administration. Despite the voluntary administration, the steel producer made the steel required for the Satellite City BMX Club and provided same to Spanlift Australia. Upon delivery of the steel, Spanlift went into ‘overdrive’ trying to make up for lost time; however, the delay caused by the steel producer has made an impact to the completion date which was due in August.
I am pleased to be able to advise you that: · All building permits and approvals have been completed and the project approved; · The site has been pegged out and ready for the footings to be completed; · The footings will be completed next week; · Trucks have departed Mount Gambier en-route for Palmerston (see https://youtu.be/p5V-Un80YMY); and · The Satellite City BMX Club Sub-Committee has locked in Dirtz Design and Construction to build the track – based on your votes, the track being built is what you asked for.
As the build progresses, the Satellite City BMX Club Facebook page and Internet site will have pictures posted of the building progress. I take this opportunity to remind you that, whilst you may drive past the site, entry into the site is prohibited on account of it being a construction site. If you do visit the area, stay outside the permitter fence, admire and take as many photos as you like.
It is important to understand that: whilst we have experienced a delay due to circumstances unforseen to any of us, the project is very much alive and well. Soon, we will see, rising from ground up, one of the biggest single span structures to cover a BMX track in Australia. It is also important to remember that this project is 100% Australian: the steel is made in Australia, and the earth moving and site construction by local people. And lastly, above all else, this project will provide a facility for present and future riders for many years to come: the facility will truly benefit Satellite City BMX Club members and our friends from other clubs who attend and participate at race events. The project will be a win win for everyone.
